We watched Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss. Then we measured, stirred, and made oobleck. This is a non-Newtonian fluid that can be a solid and a liquid. We played and had fun, then we wrote our procedural "How To" writing explaining how we made it. We even had fun running on our Oobleck. Here are some pictures.
Thank you to all our parents for supporting our Rock Stars! We have won bubble gum, popcorn and sprite party, and float party on Thursday after the race. We also had the most pledges during our break, so the kids got to pie Johnny. Thanks again for the support.
We are learning about forces. Each time the kids hit the balloon to keep it from hitting the floor, they are pushing it. Gravity is pulling the balloon to the floor. The kids had a great time learning about forces. ;0)
I am super proud that all the kids were able to earn the rock concert. This is always a fun "first" concert for the kids. We sing, dance, and celebrate together. These were the pictures from the classroom, my pictures in the cafeteria didn't turn out due to lighting. Sorry
The kids had a great time at the Cibolo Nature Center. They got to go on a hike, play a camouflage game, look for birds with binoculars, and skim the water looking for living organisms. It was a cold day, but the kids had fun. Thanks to all our chaperones that went along and made the field trip a huge success.
The room is decorated and the kids are excited and telling stories about their elves, so we have a classroom elf, Hammer. He is a mischievous little elf. ;0)
Thank you to the Holmes family for sharing their knowledge with us. We learned a lot about bees and Government Canyon.
We have completed two fun Science experiments in the lab this past week. We learned about a solute and a solvent when we tried to dissolve candy corn in vinegar, Sprite, peroxide, or cooking oil. Today, we found the circumference of a pumpkin, the number of ribs, and also estimated how many seeds our pumpkins had. Many groups were surprised how many seeds were in a pumpkin. To our surprise, one of our pumpkins had sprouted new plants inside the pumpkin, so we are trying to grow our pumpkin plants in the window. We will be learning the life cycle of the pumpkin first hand.;0) There are also some pictures with our kinder buddies that we shared stories with.
