The room is decorated and the kids are excited and telling stories about their elves, so we have a classroom elf, Hammer. He is a mischievous little elf. ;0)
Thank you to the Holmes family for sharing their knowledge with us. We learned a lot about bees and Government Canyon.
We have completed two fun Science experiments in the lab this past week. We learned about a solute and a solvent when we tried to dissolve candy corn in vinegar, Sprite, peroxide, or cooking oil. Today, we found the circumference of a pumpkin, the number of ribs, and also estimated how many seeds our pumpkins had. Many groups were surprised how many seeds were in a pumpkin. To our surprise, one of our pumpkins had sprouted new plants inside the pumpkin, so we are trying to grow our pumpkin plants in the window. We will be learning the life cycle of the pumpkin first hand.;0) There are also some pictures with our kinder buddies that we shared stories with.
We had some great "Characters" show up to school today. It was great to see their creativity and excitement. These little events create an excitement for school and make great memories.
We had D.E.A.R. (drop everything and read) on Wednesday. Students across the state of Texas read for thirty minutes from 10:00-10:30. Here are some pictures of our the kids reading. Overall, I think most of them enjoyed it. ;0)
We had a great first day today with stories like Amelia Bedelia's First Day of School, First Day Jitters and drank "Jitter Juice" to take away our nervous jitters, and then Chrysanthemum to learn that our name is perfect for us. We will share our name activity in class tomorrow. Attached are the First Day in Second Grade photos for you to enjoy.
We had four cute, adorable yellow lab puppies visit our room today. The kids loved it and were really good. Thank you to the Vineyard family for sharing the joy and love of puppies with us.
Moving around the room trying to find area and perimeter of the shapes I drew on the floor. The masking tape is a little hard to see in the pictures.
Being from Illinois, I was surprised to get a day off for something called,"Battle of the Flowers." Now, I love it. Enjoy the pictures of the kids during Fiesta rotation.
